Sharing Soup and Life’s Revelations: Two February Gatherings in the Bellingham/Skagit Valley Area – and Possible Latihan Hall. February 10th, was an encouragingly sunny day as eight women enjoyed a memorable low-key luncheon at the home of Julia Hurd (seated on the right) in Alger, WA. John Hurd enjoyed a hike along the coast on a trail he’d been wanting to do for a while, and he also had a satisfying day.Julia set the tone by telling her guests in advance “Maybe we can each share two things that are important to our lives right now.” Each rose to the occasion. The revelations came to us with incredible candor as the opportunity to reflect made its way around the table twice. R to L: Maryam Schutz, Nadia Woodcock, Robina Page, Helaine Burrows, Honora Drew, Roosmiwati Reynolds and Serena DuBois.

Lucas and Farrah Hess came after lunch so are not in these photos. They were warmly welcomed and joined the Latihan. Before Latihan some general testing was proposed. Both men and women tested several questions about aging and our attitudes towards death and most shared afterwards.

Regional Helpers Rayma Norton and David Lynch were able to attend the event. All present expressed gratitude for the simultaneous Latihan and for the presence of the others who came. We realized there were even more individuals who had wanted to attend. Sebastian Tedrow and Luther and Maryam Schutz, as well as Marlena Knill and Isabel Gates and Melanie Branchflower and Robina Page sent regrets.
Discussion included the possibility of renting a place to meet for Latihan again once or twice a month. Marius is off to Croatia, so there was some consideration of renting the Korean Baptist Church south of Bellingham. This would be a central location compared to the former Mount Vernon Subud House. Stay tuned to learn what happens!
